It seemed to me that the main problem was not the content of reddit so much as not diversifying the content intake across sites and sources. Reddit is a delicious part of this balanced breakfast.
Purely in terms of aggregators? Other than reddit: Metafilter, OsNews, Mozillazine, a little bit of slashdot. Add on to that plenty of primary sources. Currently evaluating jaanix, but it seems a bit slow-paced.
